  • Why to learn sanskrit when all manthrams are available in Tamil?

    Sanskrit is Devabhasha.
Mantrams are in Sanskrit and there are procedures to
chant them with swarams like udaatham, anudaatham, swaritham and so on.

If pronounced wrongly they would have disastrous effects.
Translations in Tamil are only to understand the meaning.

Re: Why to learn sanskrit when all manthrams are available in Tamil?

(This is an extension of pervious post)
In Tamizh, you start off with "Ka", "Kaa", ending with "Kaayathiree". Om Pooku, Om Puvaka, Okum Chuvaka, Om Makaka..... and so on. Om Poorpoovachchuvaka.... That is not correct, was never correct, was never intended to be correct. Ka, Cha, Ta, Tha, Pa -- all have four variations, four sounds, four significances, four effects. Length of vowel, cadence, rising and falling inflexion, elision, accentuation, pause, run-on -- you cannot get these from books. Self-study equates to self-injury, not for the individual only but to the whole family. If you do not put incense into the censer, but offal, not only your own room, but your whole house stinks. It will be a long, long time before you get the stench out of your curtains, your carpet, your bed-linen, pillows and mattress, if at all you can do it. That is, if you can find a de-odoriser.

One who want to learn mantras should first of all get a proper guru, a Veda-Brahmanan well-versed in the manthram and the relevant Vedic texts, sit down with him,, and get the pronunciation and words absolutely correct. This is not a "fun thing". It is a deadly serious and sober occasion to access untapped potent powers by invoking the esoteric vibrations inherent in the chanting. Erroneous articulation, whether intentional or accidental, might well have the reverse of the effect intended, with irreversible consequences. This has actually happened in cases where the stingy gruhasthan dispensed with the priest's services and attempted a "do-it-yourself" stunt.
