  • Sri Kothandaramasamy Devasthanam

Sri Kothandaramasamy Devasthanam, is located at Perumudivakkam, about 40 KM away from Chennai - Tirupathi road, Chengai - MGR District, Tamil Nadu. The temple is more than hundred years old, built in the year 1897, by Sri Rangaswamy Iyengar, an ardent devotee of Lord Sri Rama.

It is said that the village earlier called Mahudabishekam, had no vaishanva temple. Rangaswamy Iyengar, a native of the village was saddened by this state and wanted to construct one. One day Lord Rama, gave darshan in his dream and Rangaswamy Iyengar considered it as the ultimate blessing and decided to construct a temple for Sri Rama.

With single minded devotion combined with untiring efforts, Rangaswamy Iyengar commenced the temple construction activities. Soon, he faced a dilemma when he lost his son. The elders of the family pointed out the death as a fall out of his attempt to build the temple for Sri Rama and asked Rangaswamy Iyengar to drop the construction activities. But, undeterred he went ahead saying that Lord Rama is more important than his son. In his ambition to make his dream come true, Rangaswamy Iyengar not only devoted his time and energy but also his wealth. His wife Srimathi Ranagnayaki Ammal, stood by him during the tough times and gave him able support in the temple activities.

With the grace of Sri Rama, the Temple was consecrated in the year 1897. Assuming the role of “Dharmakartha”, Rangaswamy Iyengar, introduced certain schemes and made sure that the pujas are performed daily with devotion and sincerity. Today his lineage continues to serve Lord Sri Rama and the temple stands tall with its beauty and grace.
