      Sri:

A total lunar eclipse occurs on Saturday, Dec 10, 2011

In India, the eclipse begins at 6:14 pm ist . The duration of the eclipse is 3 hours and 33 minutes.

In North America, the eclipse is visible partially in some places only. Because of sun rise or moon set, the ending of eclipse will not be visible in North America.

As per UTC time (GMT), penumral eclipse starts at 11:33 am GMT. However penumbral lunar eclipses are not considered
as an eclipse for performing Hindu rituals. Only the partial and total lunar eclipses are considered as lunar eclipses for the purpose of performing
tarpanams and purificatory rituals as per the Hindu tradition. If the partial and total lunar eclipses are not visible in the some areas
on December 10, 2011, the traditional rituals associated with an eclipse need not be observed by the residents of the area.

In east coast (NY, NJ, Pittsburg, Maryland ), the moon sets at 7:03 am est. Sun rises before 7:45 AM. Hence the lunar eclipse is not visible, and there is no need to observe punya kalam in eastern America/Canada.

How to find eclipse timing at your place:-
check lunar eclipse duration please visit url and plug in your city Form -A or Form-B (give latitude/longitude of your city)
      http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/LunarEclipse.php
Eclipse: Moon entering umbra is considered for our anushtanam.
Eclipse is visible up to moon set or sun rise whichever is first.

Example: For San Jose, California eclipse timings: (PST)

Moon enters umbra 2011 Dec 10 04:45.4 (BEGINS) Moon enters totality 2011 Dec 10 06:05.7 Middle of eclipse 2011 Dec 10 06:31.8 Moon leaves totality 2011 Dec 10 06:58.0 (ends)
Sun rise: 7:10 AM PST Moonset 2011 Dec 10 07:15

To check moon set/moon rise or sun rise/sun set:
      http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/ astronomical-applications/ data-services/rs-one-year-us
select moon rise/moon set or sun rise/sunset ,
enter state & city . click print
you will see a table with sun rise/sun set or moon rise/moon set for each day in local time.
