Horse Power
In physics terms, horsepower is used to measure the amount of work done. Work done is the mathematical expression of force x distance x time and is typically in ft/lbs/mins (Imperial) or Newton/Meters/mins (Metric).
Horsepower was first coined by James Watt to measure the output of his new steam engines.
1HP = the force required to lift 33000lbs 1ft in 1 minute or 33000ft/lbs/mins
Horsepower is rarely used nowadays (outside of America), the unit that is used instead is the Kilowatt (Kw).
1Hp = 0.746Kw (or 746 Watts)
