4.27.26 இதஸ்ச நாதிதூரே ஸா
கிஷ்கிந்தா சித்ரகாநநா ।
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய புரீ ரம்யா
பவிஷ்யதி ந்ருபாத்மஜ ॥
itaṡca nātidūrē sā
kiṣkindhā citrakānanā ।
sugrīvasya purī ramyā
bhaviṣyati nṛpātmaja ॥
And even Kishkindhā of lovely woods,
the beautiful city of Sugreeva,
is not too far from here, O prince!
4.27.27 கீதவாதித்ரநிர்கோஷ:
ஸ்ரூயதே ஜயதாம் வர ।
நர்ததாம் வாநராணாம் ச
ம்ருதங்காடம்பரை ஸ்ஸஹ ॥
gītavāditranirghōṣaḥ
ṡrūyatē jayatāṃ vara ।
nardatāṃ vānarāṇāṃ ca
mṛdaṅgāḍambarai ssaha ॥
O foremost of the victorious!
Even the sounds of song and music from there
can be heard (here), along with the
shouts of Vānaras and the sounds of drums!
4.27.28 லப்த்வா பார்யாம் கபிவர:
ப்ராப்ய ராஜ்யம் ஸுஹ்ருத்வ்ருத: ।
த்ருவம் நந்ததி ஸுக்ரீவ:
ஸம்ப்ராப்ய மஹதீம் ஸ்ரியம் ॥
labdhvā bhāryāṃ kapivaraḥ
prāpya rājyaṃ suhṛdvṛtaḥ ।
dhruvaṃ nandati sugrīvaḥ
samprāpya mahatīṃ ṡriyam ॥
Sugreeva, regaining his wife,
and also obtaining the kingdom and abundance of wealth,
is certainly enjoying along with his friends.
4.27.29 இத்யுக்த்வா ந்யவஸத்தத்ர
ராகவஸ்ஸஹலக்ஷ்மண: ।
பஹுத்ருஸ்யதரீகுஞ்ஜே
தஸ்மிந்ப்ரஸ்ரவணே கிரௌ ॥
ityuktvā nyavasattatra
rāghavassahalakṣmaṇaḥ ।
bahudṛṡyadarīkuñjē
tasminprasravaṇē girau ॥
Reflecting thus, Rāghava along with Lakshmana
made that Prasravaṇa mountain of
many caves and bushes, his place of residence. NSS and NCC cadets in India and Scouts in USA are taught how to live in wilderness, all by themselves, when needed. It seems all the princes of Rāma’s times were also taught the same. They were able to put up a camp anywhere and live.
4.27.30-31 ஸுஸுகேऽபி பஹுத்ரவ்யே
தஸ்மிந்ஹி தரணீதரே ।
வஸதஸ்தஸ்ய ராமஸ்ய
ரதிரல்பாऽபி நாபவத் ।
ஹ்ருதாம் ஹி பார்யாம் ஸ்மரத:
ப்ராணேப்யோऽபி கரீயஸீம் ।
உதயாப்யுதிதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
ஸஸாங்கம் ச விஸேஷத: ॥
susukhē'pi bahudravyē
tasminhi dharaṇīdharē ।
vasatastasya rāmasya
ratiralpā'pi nābhavat ।
hṛtāṃ hi bhāryāṃ smarataḥ
prāṇēbhyō'pi garīyasīm ।
udayābhyuditaṃ dṛṣṭvā
ṡaṡāṅkaṃ ca viṡēṣataḥ ॥
Rāma lived on that comfortable mountain
which offered everything in plenty.
But he could not enjoy even a bit of it,
not even the moon rising from
behind the mountain to the east,
as he thought of his abducted wife,
who was more than life for him.
4.27.32 ஆவிவேஸ ந தம் நித்ரா
நிஸாஸு ஸயநம் கதம் ।
தத்ஸமுத்தேந ஸோகேந
பாஷ்போபஹதசேதஸம் ॥
āvivēṡa na taṃ nidrā
niṡāsu ṡayanaṃ gatam ।
tatsamutthēna ṡōkēna
bāṣpōpahatacētasam ॥
With his mind wrecked by those thoughts
and the grief and the tears,
he was unable to sleep at night, lying on the bed.
4.27.33 தம் ஸோசமாநம் காகுத்ஸ்தம்
நித்யம் ஸோகபராயணம் ।
துல்யது:கோऽப்ரவீத்ப்ராதா
லக்ஷ்மணோऽநுநயந்வச: ॥
taṃ ṡōcamānaṃ kākutstham
nityaṃ ṡōkaparāyaṇam ।
tulyaduḥkhō'bravīdbhrātā
lakṣmaṇō'nunayanvacaḥ ॥
Lakshmaṇa, his brother, who was equally sad,
said these words to cheer up
the incessantly grieving Kākutstha:
4.27.34 அலம் வீர வ்யதாம் கத்வா
ந த்வம் ஸோசிதுமர்ஹஸி ।
ஸோசதஹ்யவஸீதந்தி
ஸர்வார்தா விதிதம் ஹி தே ॥
alaṃ vīra vyathāṃ gatvā
na tvaṃ ṡōcitumarhasi ।
ṡōcatahyavasīdanti
sarvārthā viditaṃ hi tē ॥
You have been harrowing yourself
for too long, O Veera!
You shall not cave in to grief,
for it will bring everything to a ruin;
and you know this very well.
4.27.35 பவாந்க்ரியாபரோ லோகே
பவாந் தேவபராயண: ।
ஆஸ்திகோ தர்மஸீலஸ்ச
வ்யவஸாயீ ச ராகவ ॥
bhavānkriyāparō lōkē
bhavān dēvaparāyaṇaḥ ।
āstikō dharmaṡīlaṡca
vyavasāyī ca rāghava ॥
You have (always) been a man of action
in this world, O Rāghava!
You are also well aware of the hand of Providence.
You believe in the order of things.
You cling to Dharma and you (always) take initiative.
4.27.36 ந ஹ்யவ்யவஸிதஸ்ஸத்ரும்
ராக்ஷஸம் தம் விஸேஷத: ।
ஸமர்தஸ்த்வம் ரணே ஹந்தும்
விக்ரமைர்ஜிஹ்மகாரிணம் ॥
na hyavyavasitaṡṡatrum
rākṣasaṃ taṃ viṡēṣataḥ ।
samarthastvaṃ raṇē hantum
vikramairjihmakāriṇam ॥
Without concerted effort, you will not be
able to kill the enemy, that too a Rākshasa,
who resorts to (every sort of) deception in a fight.
4.27.37 ஸமுந்மூலய ஸோகம் த்வம்
வ்யவஸாயம் ஸ்திரம் குரு ।
ததஸ்ஸபரிவாரம் தம்
ராக்ஷஸம் ஹந்துமர்ஹஸி ॥
samunmūlaya ṡōkaṃ tvam
vyavasāyaṃ sthiraṃ kuru ।
tatassaparivāraṃ tam
rākṣasaṃ hantumarhasi ॥
Tear out your sorrow by the roots and
put forth a determined effort.
You shall kill that Rākshasa
including all his kith and kin.
4.27.38 ப்ருதிவீமபி காகுத்ஸ்த
ஸஸாகரவநாசலாம் ।
பரிவர்தயிதும் ஸக்த:
கிம் புநஸ்தம் ராவணம் ॥
pṛthivīmapi kākutstha
sasāgaravanācalām ।
parivartayituṃ ṡaktaḥ
kiṃ punastaṃ rāvaṇam ॥
O Kākutstha! You can turn even the earth,
with all its Vanas, mountains and oceans
upside down. What to speak of (taking on) Rāvaṇa?
4.27.39 ஸரத்காலம் ப்ரதீக்ஷஸ்வ
ப்ராவ்ருட்காலோऽயமாகத: ।
ததஸ்ஸராஷ்ட்ரம் ஸகணம்
ராவணம் த்வம் வதிஷ்யஸி ॥
ṡaratkālaṃ pratīkṣasva
prāvṛṭkālō'yamāgataḥ ।
tatassarāṣṭraṃ sagaṇam
rāvaṇaṃ tvaṃ vadhiṣyasi ॥
This monsoon season has come in between;
wait for the arrival of post-monsoon season.
You shall, then destroy
Rāvaṇa, his realm and his clan.
4.27.40 அஹம் து கலு தே வீர்யம்
ப்ரஸுப்தம் ப்ரதிபோதயே ।
தீப்தைராஹுதிபி: காலே
பஸ்மச்சந்நமிவாநலம் ॥
ahaṃ tu khalu tē vīryam
prasuptaṃ pratibōdhayē ।
dīptairāhutibhiḥ kālē
bhasmacchannamivānalam ॥
I am merely rousing your dormant might,
as one does the fire covered in ash
with inflammable oblations now and then.
4.27.41 லக்ஷ்மணஸ்ய து தத்வாக்யம்
ப்ரதிபூஜ்ய ஹிதம் ஸுபம் ।
ராகவஸ்ஸுஹ்ருதம் ஸ்நிக்தம்
இதம் வசநமப்ரவீத் ॥
lakṣmaṇasya tu tadvākyam
pratipūjya hitaṃ ṡubham ।
rāghavassuhṛdaṃ snigdham
idaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
Duly respecting those
meaningful and nicely spoken words,
Rāghava said these words to the
affectionate and good-hearted (Lakshmaṇa):
4.27.42 வாச்யம் யதநுரக்தேந
ஸ்நிக்தேந ச ஹிதேந ச ।
ஸத்யவிக்ரமயுக்தேந
ததுக்தம் லக்ஷ்மண த்வயா ॥
vācyaṃ yadanuraktēna
snigdhēna ca hitēna ca ।
satyavikramayuktēna
taduktaṃ lakṣmaṇa tvayā ॥
You have spoken, O Lakshmaṇa,
what is expected from a man of true valor
who is friendly, means well and
is sincerely interested (in me).
4.27.43 ஏஷ ஸோக: பரித்யக்த:
ஸர்வகார்யாவஸாதக: ।
விக்ரமேஷ்வப்ரதிஹதம்
தேஜ: ப்ரோத்ஸாஹயாம்யஹம் ॥
ēṣa ṡōkaḥ parityaktaḥ
sarvakāryāvasādakaḥ ।
vikramēṣvapratihatam
tējaḥ prōtsāhayāmyaham ॥
I shall give up this grief
that only brings everything to naught.
I shall stir the power that
makes me prevail against all odds.
4.27.44 ஸரத்காலம் ப்ரதீக்ஷிஷ்யே
ஸ்திதோऽஸ்மி வசநே தவ ।
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய நதீநாம் ச
ப்ரஸாதமநுபாலயந் ॥
ṡaratkālaṃ pratīkṣiṣyē
sthitō'smi vacanē tava ।
sugrīvasya nadīnāṃ ca
prasādamanupālayan ॥
I shall wait for the post-monsoon season,
abiding by the advice you have given.
I will wait for the grace of
the rivers and that of Sugreeva.
4.27.45 உபகாரேண வீரஸ்து
ப்ரதீகாரேண யுஜ்யதே ।
அக்ருதஜ்ஞோऽப்ரதிக்ருதோ
ஹந்தி ஸத்த்வவதாம் மந: ॥
upakārēṇa vīrastu
pratīkārēṇa yujyatē ।
akṛtajñō'pratikṛtō
hanti sattvavatāṃ manaḥ ॥
A Veera always pays back the favor he has received;
those who do not remember or reciprocate
will certainly hurt the feelings of good men.
4.27.46 அதைவமுக்த: ப்ரணிதாய லக்ஷ்மண: ।
க்ருதாஞ்ஜலிஸ்தத்ப்ரதிபூஜ்ய பாஷிதம் ।
உவாச ராமம் ஸ்வபிராமதர்ஸநம்
ப்ரதர்ஸயந்தர்ஸநமாத்மநஸ்ஸுபம் ॥
athaivamuktaḥ praṇidhāya lakṣmaṇaḥ ।
kṛtāñjalistatpratipūjya bhāṣitam ।
uvāca rāmaṃ svabhirāmadarṡanaṃ
pradarṡayandarṡanamātmanaṡṡubham ॥
Lakshmaṇa, thus told,
joining his palms in reverence,
accepted, with due regard, what had been said.
Showing his good feelings in his eyes,
he said to Rāma of charming looks:
4.27.47 யதோக்தமேதத்தவ ஸர்வமீப்ஸிதம்
நரேந்த்ர கர்தா ந சிராத்தரீஸ்வர: ।
ஸரத்ப்ரதீக்ஷ: க்ஷமதாமிமம் பவாந்
ஜலப்ரபாதம் ரிபுநிக்ரஹே த்ருத: ॥
yathōktamētattava sarvamīpsitaṃ
narēndra kartā na cirāddharīṡvaraḥ ।
ṡaratpratīkṣaḥ kṣamatāmimaṃ bhavān
jalaprapātaṃ ripunigrahē dhṛtaḥ ॥
O lord of men! The lord of Vānaras
will, not too long from now,
do all that you wish and said.
May you hold yourself patiently
till these torrential rains come to an end.
Please wait for the arrival of post-monsoon season,
fully resolved to destroy the foe.
4.27.48 நியம்ய கோபம் ப்ரதிபால்யதாம் ஸரத்
க்ஷமஸ்வ மாஸாம் ஸ்சதுரோ மயா ஸஹ ।
வஸாசலேऽஸ்மிந்ம்ருகராஜஸேவிதே
ஸம்வர்தயந் ஸத்ருவதே ஸமுத்யமம் ॥
niyamya kōpaṃ pratipālyatāṃ ṡarat
kṣamasva māsāṃ ṡcaturō mayā saha ।
vasācalē'sminmṛgarājasēvitē
saṃvartayan ṡatruvadhē samudyamam ॥
Restrain your anger and wait
for the post-monsoon season,
spending the next four months
as best you can, living along with me
on this mountain, a lion’s resort,
resolved on the destruction of the foe.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே ஸப்தவிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥

ஸ்நிக்தேந ச ஹிதேந ச ।
ஸத்யவிக்ரமயுக்தேந
ததுக்தம் லக்ஷ்மண த்வயா ॥
vācyaṃ yadanuraktēna
snigdhēna ca hitēna ca ।
satyavikramayuktēna
taduktaṃ lakṣmaṇa tvayā ॥
You have spoken, O Lakshmaṇa,
what is expected from a man of true valor
who is friendly, means well and
is sincerely interested (in me).
4.27.43 ஏஷ ஸோக: பரித்யக்த:
ஸர்வகார்யாவஸாதக: ।
விக்ரமேஷ்வப்ரதிஹதம்
தேஜ: ப்ரோத்ஸாஹயாம்யஹம் ॥
ēṣa ṡōkaḥ parityaktaḥ
sarvakāryāvasādakaḥ ।
vikramēṣvapratihatam
tējaḥ prōtsāhayāmyaham ॥
I shall give up this grief
that only brings everything to naught.
I shall stir the power that
makes me prevail against all odds.
4.27.44 ஸரத்காலம் ப்ரதீக்ஷிஷ்யே
ஸ்திதோऽஸ்மி வசநே தவ ।
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய நதீநாம் ச
ப்ரஸாதமநுபாலயந் ॥
ṡaratkālaṃ pratīkṣiṣyē
sthitō'smi vacanē tava ।
sugrīvasya nadīnāṃ ca
prasādamanupālayan ॥
I shall wait for the post-monsoon season,
abiding by the advice you have given.
I will wait for the grace of
the rivers and that of Sugreeva.
4.27.45 உபகாரேண வீரஸ்து
ப்ரதீகாரேண யுஜ்யதே ।
அக்ருதஜ்ஞோऽப்ரதிக்ருதோ
ஹந்தி ஸத்த்வவதாம் மந: ॥
upakārēṇa vīrastu
pratīkārēṇa yujyatē ।
akṛtajñō'pratikṛtō
hanti sattvavatāṃ manaḥ ॥
A Veera always pays back the favor he has received;
those who do not remember or reciprocate
will certainly hurt the feelings of good men.
4.27.46 அதைவமுக்த: ப்ரணிதாய லக்ஷ்மண: ।
க்ருதாஞ்ஜலிஸ்தத்ப்ரதிபூஜ்ய பாஷிதம் ।
உவாச ராமம் ஸ்வபிராமதர்ஸநம்
ப்ரதர்ஸயந்தர்ஸநமாத்மநஸ்ஸுபம் ॥
athaivamuktaḥ praṇidhāya lakṣmaṇaḥ ।
kṛtāñjalistatpratipūjya bhāṣitam ।
uvāca rāmaṃ svabhirāmadarṡanaṃ
pradarṡayandarṡanamātmanaṡṡubham ॥
Lakshmaṇa, thus told,
joining his palms in reverence,
accepted, with due regard, what had been said.
Showing his good feelings in his eyes,
he said to Rāma of charming looks:
4.27.47 யதோக்தமேதத்தவ ஸர்வமீப்ஸிதம்
நரேந்த்ர கர்தா ந சிராத்தரீஸ்வர: ।
ஸரத்ப்ரதீக்ஷ: க்ஷமதாமிமம் பவாந்
ஜலப்ரபாதம் ரிபுநிக்ரஹே த்ருத: ॥
yathōktamētattava sarvamīpsitaṃ
narēndra kartā na cirāddharīṡvaraḥ ।
ṡaratpratīkṣaḥ kṣamatāmimaṃ bhavān
jalaprapātaṃ ripunigrahē dhṛtaḥ ॥
O lord of men! The lord of Vānaras
will, not too long from now,
do all that you wish and said.
May you hold yourself patiently
till these torrential rains come to an end.
Please wait for the arrival of post-monsoon season,
fully resolved to destroy the foe.
4.27.48 நியம்ய கோபம் ப்ரதிபால்யதாம் ஸரத்
க்ஷமஸ்வ மாஸாம் ஸ்சதுரோ மயா ஸஹ ।
வஸாசலேऽஸ்மிந்ம்ருகராஜஸேவிதே
ஸம்வர்தயந் ஸத்ருவதே ஸமுத்யமம் ॥
niyamya kōpaṃ pratipālyatāṃ ṡarat
kṣamasva māsāṃ ṡcaturō mayā saha ।
vasācalē'sminmṛgarājasēvitē
saṃvartayan ṡatruvadhē samudyamam ॥
Restrain your anger and wait
for the post-monsoon season,
spending the next four months
as best you can, living along with me
on this mountain, a lion’s resort,
resolved on the destruction of the foe.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே ஸப்தவிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē saptaviṃṡassargaḥ ॥
