    Vaikunta Ekadasi

Vaikuntha Ekadasi festival or Vykunta Ekadashi is one of the most important Ekadasis. The Vaikunth Ekadashi is an auspicious day and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and falls on the 11th day of every lunar fortnight in traditional Hindu calendar.

Vaikuntha Ekadasi is observed in the Margali Month (Margazhi Masam) as per the Tamil Calendar. As per the Telugu Calender, it is observed in the Pushya month.

Vaikuntha Ekadasi is also known as Mukkoti Ekadasi and as Swargavathil Ekadasi in Kerela On this day mupathi Mukoti Devas ( 33 crores) will have Dharshan of Sriman Naryan through north gate. The word Mukkoti means “ Mupathu Mukkoti.”

Hence the devotees entering through north gate and having Dharshan of Sriman Narayan is known as ‘Uttara Dwaara Darshanam.’

This is what ''Uttara Dwaara Darshanam'' spiritually meaning.

The nearest reference to Vaikunta, we find in Vishnu Sahasranama sloka # 44 which reads as follows.

! Vaikuntah Purushah Praanah Praanadah Pranavah Prithuh
    Hiranyagarbhah Shatrughno Vyaapto VaayurAdhokshajah!!

According to Vishnu Purana, fasting on Vaikunta Ekadasi is equivalent to fasting on the remaining 22 Ekadasis of the (Hindu) year.

Lord opened the gate of Vaikuntam (his abode) for two daemons inspite of they being against the Lord. They also asked for the boon that who ever listens to their story and see the image of Lord coming out of the door (called Dwaram) called Vaikunta Dwaram they reach Vaikuntam as well.

Temples all over the India makes a door kind of structure on this day for devotees to pass through that.

It is believed that one will be absolved of all sins and will attain Moksha and the doors of Vaikunta will be kept open for the soul after it leaves this physical body

In Mahabaratha, Bhagavad Gita - the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna at the beginning of Kurukshetra War is said to have occurred on this day.
