The above quote appears to be a Tit-for-Tat to my postings and a baseless comment is made against the priests of Sree
Vari Temple Tirupthi. I can categorically say that no priest in Tirupathi could ask for any dakshinai, because they are well
paid and always under the surveillance of higher authorities. For God sake please do not make such stinging comments
about honest people. Please do not bring in to this thread maariamman temple matters, since most of those temples
are platform temples built by poor people,and we should not interfere in their devotional aspect.

Many time I myself have seen these Sri Vari Temple Brahmins asking for money with the other hand while giving Thertham or applying Sadari on the head of the devotees.

If you deny it, it is not going to erase what is actually happening there.

You just post a Thread and about Thattu Kasu, and you only brought up how Saiva Gurukal act by applying Viboothi on devotees head , which was irrelevant to your original post.

Do not bring in any Saiva/Vaishna Conflict in any of your Threads; It is in very Bad taste; also remember once you open a Thread it is open for discussion till the Administrator closes the Thread.

Do not bring any of your Perverted thoughts about other beliefs.

Temple Gurulal giving Sadari on the head with one hand an asking for money with other hand is very common site in many Temples including Sri.Thirupathi Balaji Temple; This act is more sinful than applying Vibhoothi on the forehead of a devotee and again going inside garba Graha for doing Archanai; touching the Devotee and applying Kungumam is very common in many Mariamman Temples.

Individually providing shelter or educational help may not be possible, but giving Dhatchanai in Aarathi Thattu by many devotees will go a long way in helping poor Gurukal from any community, whether he is from Mariamman Temple Poojari, or Saiva or Vaisnava Temple Gurukal.

Keeping the mind clean is more important than keeping the body clean. There is nothing wrong in allowing any one as Gurukal, Caste should not be a barrier for this.

Going inside the Garba Graha is not allowed in Most Temple in South India, whereas in North India , Devotees can touch the Deity an Pray.

As you said It is very easy to preach in general terms like ' Provide Shelter, Education etc etc' to Grukal Family Etc, but it is very rarely happen. If that is so who is responsible, you and me ofcourse. If you say that in most temples Gurukkal is not
touching devotees what about the other so many temples where Gurukkal is applying vibhuthi tilak on the forehead of devotees. People may see things from different angles and you are one who see a thing from your angle whereas I am seeing
the same from another angle. That is the difference between us.

In calcutta Bengali brahmins are eating fish and at times meat regularly and that should not be taken as granted in Tamilnadu.
I dont want to deny that a number of TBs are also eating fish and what not privately in hotels and parties.
If the Deity in the garbagraha in any temple is beyond human impurities, why should not we allow the NBs to go inside the garbagruha and garland the Deity himself. There we look for purities. Ok let us stop with this.

Temple GuruKals in Many Temples are paid very poor salary; they need some additional help in the form of Thattu Kasu, which will go a long way to help them purchase day to day requirement.

It is very easy to preach in general terms like ' Provide Shelter, Education etc etc' to Grukal Family Etc, but it is very rarely happen.


In most Temples Gurukal is not touching the devotees while giving Vibhoothi or Flower etc.

In Calcutta Kali Temple, the Pujari there touches the forehead of almost every devotee and applies Kungumam; The Deity inside the Garpa Graha in any Temple is beyond human impurities.

Dear all gentlemen who took part in this debate so far,

Please do not mix up arathi thattu dakshinai with monetary help in so many other ways to economically backward people
in our community. In what way it is going to wipe out his/her poorness by dropping a few bucks in arathi thattu,only when you visit temples. We must try to help them in a big way by providing their wards good education,shelters to live etc.,
Are they beggers to extend the arathi thattu for you to drop some money?. They are placed in very high esteem and they must
be given so much of respects. Why should they degrade themselves. That is what I want to emphasize and nothing else.

I agree with you completely; these Temple Gurukals are very poor; Whether they belong to Saiva Temples or Vaishnava Temples, it does not matter , with rising cost of living, they need all our support.

இருப்பினும் ஒன்று மட்டும் என் மனதில் ஓடுவதை தங்கள் முன் வைக்க விரும்புகிறேன்......
முப்போதும் திருமேனி தீண்டும் அடியவர்க்கும் அடியேன் நான் என்று சுந்தரர் சொல்வதை மட்டும் எப்போதும் மனதில் கொள்கிறேன். அப்பேற்பட்ட அடியவரே குருக்கள் எல்லோரும். கோவில் உண்டியலில் போடும் காசை விட, வாசலில் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் பிச்சைக்காரர்களுக்கு கொடுப்பதை விட, ஸ்வாமியின் மலர் மாலைகளுக்கும் அர்ச்சனைகளுக்கும் செலவிடுவதை விட சிறிது அதிகமாகவே அந்த முப்போதும் திருமேனி தீண்டும் அடியவர்க்கு செலவிடுவதை பாக்கியமாக கருதுகிறேன். தயவு செய்து என் தாழ்மையான கருத்தை தவறாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம்..........

நான் அதிகமாக கூட்டம் உள்ள கோயிலில் சென்று வழிபடுவதில்லை. திருக்கோயில் செல்வதின் காரணமே நம்மை படைத்தவனின் அருளை வேண்டி சற்று நிம்மதியாக வழி படுவதற்காக என்பதே எனது நம்பிக்கை. நான் மற்ற பெரிய கோயில்களுக்கு அங்கு எழுப்பியுள்ள சிற்ப செல்வங்களை காணவே சென்றுவருகிறேன். கோயிலில் என்னைவிட எளிமையாக உள்ளவர்களுக்கு என்னால் முடிந்தவரை உதவுவதுதான் எனது தர்மம் என எண்ணுகிறேன்.

Dear Mr.Padmanabhan,
I do not know why you are always straying away from the main points raised by me in my post. I am not against Dakshinai
in aarathi thattu. What Sree.NVS swamin replied is correct and apt. Nobody is against any kind of poor brahmins . The main
point is whether it is necessary to put aarathi dakshinai or not. Now I want to tell you another thing that is ramphant in
Saivite temples. If a devotee show his forehead the gurukkal never hesitate to put Vibhuthi thilak on his forehead with his own hand. With the same vibuthi gurukkal goes in and perform Archanai . In what way it is acceptable. Do you think that because
gurukkal is poor, he is doing all these things just for a few bucks. Irrespective of what you think I am quite against this practice. If you want proof please go to any saivite temple in Tamilnadu, and you will see this practice with your own eyes.
